The forecast called for thunderstorms all day on July 27th. All day. The radar looked bleak, and three different weather apps concluded that the odds of a downpour were greater than 70%. Which was fine. Somewhat sad news on such a happy day, but fine. Ian and Josie, when they’re together, could easily light up everything enough to make up for the sun.
(If you missed it, go see their engagement session on the shore of Lake Michigan. You’ll see what I’m talking about.)
So they began getting ready, and their families began getting ready, and backup plans for formal portraits were made. Someone (or maybe a lot of us?) must have been praying for the rain to hold off, though, because the thunderstorms started to be pushed off later and later into the day. And gloriously, everything fell into place.
With the florals by Sunborn Gardens, the views from the Park Hotel in Downtown Madison, and the backdrop of Capitol Square, Ian & Josie’s wedding was captivatingly beautiful. What is truly beautiful, though, is the love that these two share.
It’s worth noting that I didn’t ask for this shot. I just turned around from posing the bridal party and they gave me these smiles. Gah, the feels.
Cocktail hour at The Park!
Since the sky had been filled with clouds for much of the day, and the rain was still supposed to come, the three of us went outside a bit early to try our luck for some sunset portraits. I swear the sun came back out just for these two, and we were gifted with the most magical light ever.
Ian and Josie, I love you both so entirely much! Thank you for having me alongside you on your wedding day— it was so beautiful to witness that it left me with tears in my eyes.
