I asked Ryan and Zachera what they thought the first time they saw each other. Neither of them could remember… because they first met in preschool!
They had their first kiss in the 8th grade, became mortal enemies for a year or two, and then began dating for real in high school. Both of them enrolled at Michigan State University, and during their senior year, Ryan got down on his knee one evening and proposed when it was just the two of them. Zachera told me, “It was special because everyone expected it to be a very public affair, but Ryan made the choice to make it intimate.”
The two of them met up with me just before dusk a few weeks ago at North Avenue Beach, and Chicago’s skyline put on a show for us (as always). With the iconic view and these two combined, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I had transported back in time a few decades! Ryan’s dapperness and Zachera’s timeless elegance had me thinking “old Hollywood, old Hollywood, old Hollywood!” the whole time.
They both have wonderful, old souls, too. She’s a photographer. He sells wine. She loves him for how he listens. His favorite thing about her is her smile. They have a pup named Oliver who they love “more than people should love an animal.” (I relate to that.)
Ryan and Zachera are celebrating four years of marriage together this month, and I was so honored to spend the evening with them and capture the deep love they so obviously have for each other. North Avenue Beach has always been one of my favorites locations, but these two and their connection made this anniversary session one I won’t soon forget. Congratulations, you two!
